DRESSCODE

  • Client: Bauhaus Dessau
  • Size: A1 (59,4 x 84,1 cm)
  • Printing Technique: Screen print. Printed with phosphorescent color: Glows in the dark
  • Year: 2016
  • About:

DRESSCODE is a site-specific installation at the BAUHAUS Dessau along the Gropiusallee. Under the banner of a “Signalskulptur” (signal sculpture) it connects the historic BAUHAUS building with the famous “Meisterhäuser”.

DRESSCODE represents a contemporary reflection on a current historic exhibition called “Große Pläne. Moderne Typen, Fantasten und Erfinder. Die Angewandte Moderne in Sachsen-Anhalt 1919-1933 “about BAUHAUS projects from the 20s that were never realized.

By using the idea of a so-called détournement, a misappropriation, in the sense of the 60s Situationist movement a daily object is turned into an art object by ignoring its original purpose. A tree protection model used to protect trees in construction sites is the inspiration for this sculpture. Instead of a “useful purpose” it turns into a visual experience playing with the viewer’s expectations and trained knowledge: art or construction site, clothes or costume, fake or real?
