The Russian term "Samisdat" means self-published and describes illegal underground-publications in former communist countries. Fighting for civil rights, freedom of speech & press and against censorship publishers often had to face oppression by the government – surveillance, prison sentences, penalties etc. Under adventurous circumstances they appropriated ink, paper and printing machines and tried to spread the word.

An interview collage with former publishers are presented in an audio feature along with faksimile riso-prints of the original publications. A poster of the pro-governmental newspaper "Neues Deutschland" shows the title page of May 1st from the years 1985 to 1989 and once more pictures the power of media control.
